A range of examinations known as Diagnostic Tests are mainly carried out on an outpatient basis, although we may perform certain examinations if you have had a surgical procedure. Our examinations range from CT Scans to MRI and X-Rays.

ESWT Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy
This non-invasive procedure is carried out in our out-patient department for the treatment of many painful physical disorders including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis and shoulder calcification. ESWT devices generate pulses of high pressure sound that travel through the skin stimulating natural healing processes.
Its use has been approved by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence). Generally no anaesthetic or surgery is required. You will need a referral by your GP. Our consultant orthopaedic surgeon will then assess and diagnose your condition before recommending shock wave treatment.
Generally l-3 treatments at short intervals are recommended. Each treatment lasts no more than a few minutes. The natural healing continues following treatment. This treatment is performed at Abbey Gisburne Park Hospital, Gisburn, Lancashire.
Health Checks
Regular health checks act as an early warning system and are a significant investment in your future well-being. It gives you the opportunity to discuss with a medical practitioner any concerns you may have and also to seek advice on how to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The health checks Well Man, and Well Woman undertake a wide range of diagnostic tests from blood pressure, full blood tests for cholesterol, liver function, blood sugar and nutritional fitness.
In addition Well Company also carries out an extensive range of tests which reassure the individual and the company that their health is being valued.
Prescription Drug Detox & Treatment Clinic
This new service which is being offered from Abbey Sefton Hospital, Liverpool is run by Pam Armstrong who is a qualified registered general nurse and teacher with a degree in psychology. and qualifications in counselling and stress management. Pam has also been awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 1993 which enabled her to study at The Betty Ford Clinic and Stanford University in San Francisco. She has also written a book ‘Back to Life’ which is a how to do it text book regarding prescribed drug addiction and withdrawal. Dr. Arun Ghosh is a private general practitioner who has a special interest in the management of patients in this field and works with Pam Armstrong in the total management of the patient.
The clinic treats patients who have an addiction to prescribed drugs such as benzodiazepines, tranquillisers, sleeping tablets and antidepressants. Patients can be treated as out-patients or with in-patient care. A mentoring service is also available by appointment or telephone.
