A new gynaecology service at Abbey Sefton Hospital in Liverpool is Hysteroscopy now being performed  on an out-patient basis with consultant gynaeologist Mr. Ash Alam undertaking this procedure.  The Hysteroscopy can help find out what is causing symptoms such as unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge.  It can also be used for checking certain womb conditions such as polyps which are small growths of tissue in the womb lining, fibroids, heavy periods or early signs of womb cancer.   The procedure usually takes about 10 – 30 minutes and is performed using a local anaesthetic.  More information or leaflet request  by calling the hospital direct on 0151 257 6700.
